Hire a Foreign Worker. Get an LMIA.
The federal government and the Québec provincial government have established pathways allowing Canadian employers to temporarily access foreign labour. Depending on the economic sector, the foreign worker's country of origin, their training and experience, the economic alliances between Canada and their country of residence, and the purpose and length of the stay, an employer may hire a foreign worker through a simple pathway or a two-step process. The latter requires the employer to first obtain a positive or neutral Labour Market Impact Assessment, also known as an LMIA. In other cases, LMIA exemptions are provided.
