About the Service
Workers can extend or change the conditions of their work permit by submitting an online application before the permit expires. If the application is submitted on time, workers benefit from maintained status, which means they can legally remain in Canada and continue working under the same conditions until a decision is made.
To extend their permit, applicants must ensure that their employer has completed all required steps, including obtaining a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) if required, or submitting a job offer through the Employer Portal for LMIA-exempt jobs.
Applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the expiry date, although applying too early may reduce the validity of the current permit. Workers must include up-to-date documents, pay the processing fees, and keep their passport valid.
If the permit expires before the application is submitted, restoration of status may be possible within 90 days, but work must stop until approval is obtained.
